Description
Beach Stone Curlews are large ground dwelling shore birds that occur on the beaches of Australasia. They're only found in Northern Australian beaches. This guy is one of a breeding pair we found on the Reclaim at Townsville. Not long after this photo was taken we were lucky enough to follow him to the mudflats and watch him catching crabs. They tear off the legs eating only the body. The White Headed Stilts that were keeping him company looked after the legs for him. He flew off with the second crab back to his nest we presume.
