Description
A young, male Blue Winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) was sitting not far from his brother under a huge Morton Bay Fig Tree. Thier sound is somewhat different and more raucous than the Laughing Kookaburra. Blue Winged Kookaburra's also travel in family groups during breeding season, however, they are more commonly seen in pairs or individually.
The males have royal blue feathers at the backs of their tails, whereas the female's tails are a rusty brown with black patterning.
